The McLennan County Chairman's Cup competition is designed to bring McLennan County businesses, churches, civic groups and organizations into the Food For Families effort by gathering non-perishable food to stock the shelves of local pantries.
A friendly competition among area businesses, churches, schools, civic clubs and organizations has been established. Each vies for the trophy by collecting the most food in their division. The competition is weighted to level the playing field between organizations with a large number of employees and smaller groups.
Each business, church school, civic club and organization is encouraged to create its own drive to compete against similar organizations. The food is gathered prior to the Friday before Thanksgiving and delivered to the KWTX site on Food For Families Day. Each entrant is encouraged to bring the donated food to the collection site in vehicles marked with the organization's name. Banners, signs or posters on the boxes and vehicles will identify each group.
A special area has been designated at the KWTX-TV collection site to weigh each competitor's donation so it can be recorded for the competition.
The winners of each division are formally recognized by Caritas during a special award presentation event after Food For Families.
The McLennan County Chairman’s Cup Competition is a project of the Board of Directors of Caritas of Waco.
