Charity Golf Event Being Held For Local Football Coach

CAMERON (August 5, 2010)--A golf tournament will be held Sunday, August 15th at the Cameron Country Club, located at 1901 E. 21st in Cameron, to benefit the Eric Balch family. An explosion at the Balch family home in Gatesville on Saturday, July 17th resulted in the death of the Balch’s youngest son, Mason, and severely injured Eric and his son Cade.

Eric remains hospitalized at Parkland Hospital Burn Unit in Dallas, and his son Cade continues to receive treatment for his injuries sustained in the explosion.

Eric was burned over 50% of his body. His fight will be long as Eric faces numerous surgeries over the next several weeks.

The golf tournament August 15th will be a 9-hole, 4- Person Scramble. Scheduled start time is 1:00 p.m. Entry fee is $50.00 per person and Mulligan’s will be $40.00 per team. Deadline for entry is August 11th. Anyone interested in registering for the tournament can contact Cruz Reyes at 254-455-0264 or Cameron Country Club at 254-697-2371. Participants are welcome to bring their own carts, however golf carts are available, on a limited basis. If a cart is needed, please request at time of registration.

Balch is a 1991 graduate of Yoe High School in Cameron, he currently coaches at La Vega High School in Waco. His parents, Tank & Kathy Balch live and work in Cameron, as well as his sister, Wendy Mahan, who teaches at Cameron Elementary.

    The benefit dinner is at Coryell Activity Complex starting at 11:00 AM on Sunday August 8. There was a limited number of tickets available for the lunch. The silent action I believe starts at 2:30 pm at the same locaiton.

    I believe their is a Gatesville lunch and silent auction on Aug. 8th... then I know there is a lunch and live auction in Cameron on Sept. 12th

    Kayla, this was posted on the I-Reports further down: Yoe High School is hosting a community blood drive to benefit Carter BloodCare and special patient Eric Balch on Thursday, August 5, 2010. The drive will be held at 303 E. 12th in the cafeteria from 12:00pm-6:30pm. For more information and to register for an appointment time, contact the school administration office at 254-692-3512. A bake sale fundraiser will also be held for the Balch family during the drive, and baked goods are still needed and being accepted. Anyone interested in donating baked goods or needing more information on this fundraiser, should contact Willyne Stanislaw at 254-697-4746. In addition, there will be a BBQ meal, live auction and gun raffle fundraiser for the Balch family on Sunday, September 12, at Marak Hall, seven miles northwest of Cameron on F.M. 2269. Food will be served starting at 11:00am. To go plates will be available. The live auction begins at 1:00pm. Auction items can be dropped off at Cameron Cleaners.     On Aug. 8, a benefit will be held at the Coryell Community Complex that includes a barbecue at 11 a.m. at which lunches may be purchased for $7, and a silent auction and raffle. Thanks.

    There is a benefit lunch and auction in Gatesville, if that's the one you are talking about. It's from 11-2 at the Coryell County Activities Complex. Not sure on info in Cameron.

    Eric is out of ICU and off the ventilators now. He is speaking and able to eat. Great job central Texas in coming together to help this wonderful family!

    Does anyone know about the benefit silent auction and dinner? I was told that it was this Sunday but I have had a hard time verifying the date.
