Boyce Is Cove's Next Football Pro

(March 12, 2013) -- It wasn't the view Josh Boyce had in mind at TCU Pro Day. But it didn't matter. Boyce was on crutches after injuring his right foot at the NFL combine. It required surgery.
But an exceptional NFL Combine saw Boyce run the forty yard dash in 4.38 seconds and place in the top five for receivers in five different drills. Boyce also injured his right foot at the combine that required surgery.

"I just worked hard. I learned that from high school and throughout my whole life," said TCU receiver and former Copperas Cove standout Josh Boyce." "I went out there and did what I know how to do, just play football and ran as fast as I could."

Boyce is next in line to make it in the pros from a high school that's had a pretty good track record of late.

"You know, I think it speaks volumes of their character and their work habits and hopefully somewhere they've had that instilled in them or being able to nurture that when they came through our program," said Copperas Cove head football coach Jack Welch. "But to be quite frank with you, with all those kids, they had an intangible long before we got them."
"Jack Welch has a great program at Copperas Cove," said Boyce. "Brings guys in, works them hard, teaches them them, you know, football ins and outs and about life. So it's great coming from a great program like that."

According to, Boyce is currently projected to be a 5th round draft pick. But Welch believes there's an intangible that will help Boyce become successful in the NFL.

"I truly believe he is the kind of player that can be an NFL standout. Not only is he fast, he is strong," said Welch. "And receivers take a lot of punishment. Going across the middle and getting hit. He can make the move, he can take the hits. So when you have the tools, of catching the ball and making great moves, but you also got the size and strength to go with it, that's a total package."

Even though he left school early, Boyce already has his degree which played a factor in his decision.

"That played a major part in me leaving early. I'm just taking the whole process in. It's a dream come true to be even at this level. I mean I'm just taking it all in," said Boyce.

The last thing in the process Boyce hopes to take in, is his name called at April's NFL Draft.
