AUSTIN (September 21, 2011) -- The University Interscholastic League will honor Cameron Yoe High School on Friday, September 23 for its 2011 Class 2A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The Lone Star Cup trophy presentation will take place prior to Cameron Yoe’s football game against Hearne High School at Yoe Field at 7:00 p.m.
“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic and athletic programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”
With its state championships in girl’s track and field and baseball, state runner-up finishes in football, girl’s cross country and girl’s golf, and a third-place finish in boy’s track and field, Cameron Yoe earned 82 total Lone Star Cup points for the 2010-11 school year. The Yoemen also earned points in UIL volleyball, girl’s and boy’s basketball.
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL. UIL Assistant Athletic Director Sheila Henderson will be on hand to make the presentation.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
