COLLEGE STATION (July 15, 2011) -- Gatesville quarterback Cole Edminston threw two touchdown passes to Tyler Jaynes to lead the Hornets to a 34-15 win over Whitney in the 7-on-7 State consolation final game Friday.
Lorena, playing in the championship bracket, advanced to the semifinals, before falling to Melissa 39-28.
In the championship game, Melissa quarterback Wes McQueen hit a wide-open Brad Bush for the game-winning touchdown to give the Cardinals a 27-20 win over Houston Kinkaid.
McQueen, who was named most valuable player, found Bush for a
key first down, and Bush worked his way wide open on the left side
to make the tie-breaking touchdown reception.
McQueen threw two touchdowns to Mason Hart.
The Division I pool play began today as Belton racked up a 2-1 record to advance to tomorrow's championship bracket. The Tigers defeated Cinco Ranch and Coppell before losing to Dobie in the final game.
Belton will face Lake Travis at 9 a.m.
