(May 3, 2013) -- Dane Hankamer wanted Salado head coach Bobby Peschel to retire with a medal.
Hankamer and the Eagles provided Peschel with a nice parting gift, as he won the 2A state individual title and led the Salado boys team to a third place finish at Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin on Friday.
Peschel announced his retirement at the end of the school year, after 10 seasons as boys head coach. During his tenure, Peschel guided the Eagles to seven state tournament appearances, with his squads winning the championship in 2008 and 2009.
Hankamer shot a 79 in his final round for a two-day total of 156, one stroke better than Marion's Scottie Brown who finished with a 157 two-day total.
Hankamer closed out the back 9 at +1.
The Eagles placed behind state champion Holliday and Whitesboro. Kase Spears fired the lowest round of the day for Salado with a 77.
