ROUND ROCK, Texas (June 8, 2011) -- Freshman Garrett Deleon drove in three runs and stifled a Stamford rally with two strong innings of relief
to lead Johnson City to an 11-5 victory in the Class 1A state baseball semifinals Wednesday.
Deleon entered the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the
sixth inning, with Johnson City (32-6) clinging to a 6-4 lead.
After a sacrifice fly made it 6-5, Deleon got consecutive outs on
grounders back the mound.
Johnson City collected 13 hits, led by Cody Smith with three.
Deleon was among four players with two hits for Johnson City, which
scored five runs in the seventh to pull away.
Mickey Villanueva had two hits and scored a run for Stamford
(21-4).
