ROUND ROCK (June 10, 2011) -- Blake Bass drove in six runs as Lubbock Coronado shocked defending Class 5A champion Corpus Christi Carroll 10-0 in five innings.
Coronado will face Clute Brazoswood at noon Saturday in the
finals in Round Rock.
Bass had bases-loaded doubles in the first and fifth innings to
ignite the Mustangs (33-15) offense.
Coronado pitcher Taylor Bridges (7-2) used a slow breaking curve
and a slower changeup to befuddle the Carroll offense. The
lefthander with a deliberate motion kept Carroll (34-7) at bay,
striking out four and allowing one hit.
Brayden Blackwell had three hits and scored two runs for
Coronado, while Zach Ancell had two hits and a run.
O'Shea Dumes had the only hit for Carroll. It came in the fourth
inning.
