ROUND ROCK (December 14, 2012) -- Mart will play for the class 1A, division one state title after beating Shiner 42-7 in the state semifinals Friday in Round Rock.
The Panthers will face Stamford Thursday at 4 pm. The Bulldogs beat Italy 41-8.
Neither team produced a touchdown in the first quarter, but Trevion Flowers scored on a 2-yard quarterback keeper early in the second to put the Comanches up 7-0.
Mart answered right back with a 51-yard touchdown run from Quentin Bryant to tie it at 7-7.
On the ensuing Shiner drive, Flowers lofted a pass deep downfield, but De'Nerian Thomas ripped it away for the first of his two interceptions on the night.
A couple of plays later, Thomas scrambled 36 yards and dove into the endzone for the go-ahead touchdown and Mart ran away from there.
Thomas finished with 234 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, he added two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.
This is Mart's second trip to state in three years. The Panthers beat Goldthwaite 28-7 in 2010. Stamford is making its second straight appearance after losing to Mason, 62-40, last year.
