Midway Falls In 4A State Championship Game

Arlington (December 16, 2011) -- The Midway Panthers tried to make history by capturing its first state title in school history. However, Midway was on the losing end of history.

Lake Travis' Colin Lagasse scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, on his way to offensive MVP, as the Cavaliers won an unprecedented fifth consecutive state championship 22-7.

No school in Texas history has won as many consecutive titles as
the Cavaliers (16-0). Austin Lake Travis eclipsed the record it
shared with Class 3A Sealy (1994-97) and Class 2A Celina
(1998-2001).

Mayfield found Griffin Gilbert in the back of the end zone while
scrambling to account for his team's only passing touchdown.

Jacob Standard had an interception and a fumble recovery for the
Cavaliers.

Midway trailed 10-0 at half, before Orion Stewart took the second half opening kickoff 90 yards to cut the Lake Travis lead to 10-7.

The Panthers defense held Lake Travis to two field goals, before Lagasse scored on a direct snap from two yards out, with 4:40 remaining to seal the game.

Midway finishes the season 13-3.
