Portland, Ore. (August 16, 2011) -- The Midway 12-year-old All-Star softball team is one game away from reclaiming the Little League World Series title. Midway defeated Wilkes County, North Carolina 9-5 in the semifinals Tuesday night.
Midway will face Sterling, Illinois in the championship game set for 6 p.m. CDT and will be aired nationally on ESPN2. Sterling beat Midway in the first game of pool play 2-0.
Midway struck first in the top of the first inning, thanks to a 2-run double by Kinley Brown. Wilkes County answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. After a scoreless second inning, Midway exploded for five runs in the top of the third, extending their lead to 7-2. Midway would tack on runs in the fourth and sixth inning.
Kaitlyn LaValley pitched a complete game in the circle, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits and striking out three.
Midway aims for its 12th overall Little League World Series title, and its first since 2004.
