(August 15, 2011) -- The Midway 12-year-old All-Stars defeated Puerto Rico Monday night 4-0 in the final game of pool play at the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon.
The win gives Midway a 3-1 record in pool play and a second place finish in Pool A. Midway advances to Tuesday night's semifinal round. Midway will take on Wilkes County, North Carolina, the winner of Pool B. The game will take place at 8:30 pm CDT and air on ESPN2.
Sterling, Illinois won Pool A with a 4-0 record.
Midway scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Kinley Brown started the scoring with an RBI double to score Michelle Olvera. Brown would later score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Kaitlyn LaValley would later walk on that at bat, and then stole second on a wild throw. Haley Moore, who came in to pinch run for Haley Hester who walked earlier in the inning, came in on the wild throw from third to make it 3-0.
Midway would tack on another run in the top of the sixth inning, on a Chandler Coskrey sac fly, to cap the scoring at 4-0.
