BIRDVILLE (May 25, 2012) -- Midway Softball is heading to the 4A State Tournament in Austin next week. The Lady Panthers needed a walk-off single Friday to do it.

In the one game playoff in the Regional Finals, Midway loaded up the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning against Birdville. Then with one out, Monique Miller grounded to third base and the throw to the plate came late as the Lady Panthers pulled off the 3-2 victory in dramatic fashion.

Midway returns to Austin for the state tournament for the third year in a row. The Pantherettes, who won state in 2010, make their fourth trip in the last five years. Second year head coach, Michelle Edwards, has led her team to Austin in both seasons.

Midway now awaits the pairings for next week's 4A state semifinal at Red & Charline McCombs Field at the University of Texas. They will play on Friday, June 1st, at either 9:00 am or 12:00 pm.
