Salado Captures 2A State Golf Title

(May 3, 2013) -- Six is sweet, especially after missing out on the party last year.

After a year hiatus, the Salado girls golf team returned to the 2A state tournament and proceeded to dominate the field. The Lady Eagles won the title by a convincing 30-strokes, giving them their sixth championship in school history.

Salado tallied a 719 team total, Snyder was behind them with a 749.

Salado's Meredith Ward was the highest placing Lady Eagle, taking home a silver medal after surviving a three-person playoff on hole 18. After all three golfers found a playing hazard, both Howe's Emily Taylor and Alpine's Rashae Skillern found the hazard again. Ward hit the green and took second place.

This is the sixth time Salado’s girls have advanced to state since 2004, winning it all in 2006 and 2010.
