(May 5, 2013) -- Connally High School 10th grader William Sterling was motivated to capture a gold medal recently at the 2013 Spring Special Olympic Games. His friend, Brandon, had to miss out on the competition due to being sick.
"I'm going to try to win for Brandon. Brandon is my best friend, " the 16-year-old said. "He's my best bud."
William, who suffers from a cognitive intellectual delay, did win for his buddy, taking the gold in the standing long jump.
"I'm speechless on that, they've really grown up, they are like brothers," said William's coach and Life Skills teacher Terri Midgett. "They've grown up over the years through their classes and they just get excited for one another. It's very family oriented."
