Starts Named to U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Waco (November 15, 2011) -- La Vega High standout Michael Starts has been selected for the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

During a ceremony Tuesday morning at La Vega high school, an honorary All-American Bowl jersey was presented to Starts from local soldiers.

The Army also recognized Coach Willie Williams and invited him to join Starts in San Antonio, acknowledging that leadership and teamwork help develop each All-American.

By becoming an Army All-American, Starts joins an elite fraternity. Only 90 high school football players are selected each year. Players are chosen not just because they excel on the football field, but because they embody the same values of our Army Strong Soldiers – values like Loyalty and Respect. As an Army All-American, Starts is in the same class as more than 100 first-round NFL draft picks and Heisman Trophy winners, including Adrian Peterson, Ndamukong Suh and Tim Tebow.

Players are chosen not just because they excel on the football field, but because they embody the same values as our Army Strong Soldiers – values like Loyalty and Respect. In addition to embodying these values, players also possess similar mental, emotional and physical strengths to that possessed by soldiers.

The game will take place on Jan. 7, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas.
