Troy Baseball Heading To State Tournament

WACO (May 30, 2014) For the first time since 1983 the Troy baseball team is heading to the state tournament. The Trojans knocked off Salado 1-0 in a one-game series to advance to the 2A semifinal at the Dell Diamond on Wednesday.

Troy scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning on Elijah Saldana's infield single that scored a run from second base. The throw to first glanced off the first baseman's glove toward second.

The matchup featured a pitching duel of Troy's Zach Epperson and Salado's Casey Fraizer.

Last season the same two teams met in the regional final. Salado advanced by winning two of three games.

Troy will learn its opponent at the state tournament when the UIL releases the matchups. They'll either play at 4:00 pm or 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
