(April 30, 2013) -- The dominance continues for the Vanguard boys golf team. And a new tradition begins with the girls golf team.
Both squads captured the TAPPS 2A state crown on Tuesday at the Stone Tree Golf Club in Killeen.
The Vikings won their ninth straight title after beating Boerne Geneva by seven strokes. Vanguard finished with a 633 team total, while Geneva finished with a 640 total.
Geneva's Nick Thornton, a Baylor golf commit, won the 2A boys individual title after shooting a 68-70=138.
The girls took home the championship for the first time since 1996. The Lady Vikings wrapping up the two day competition with a 733 team total. Second-place Boerne Geneva carded a two-day total of 740.
Individually, Temple Holy Trinity junior Molly Daheim, a two-time state champ, finished 10-strokes off the pace, at 150, despite a final round 70. Annika Clark from Pasadena First Baptist won the 2A individual state title with a score of 69-71=140.
