(September 19, 2013) -- If you like offense, you're in for a treat when Mart and Rogers get together. The last time the Panthers and Eagles played, it was a wild 84 to 58 Rogers win.
"A lot of memories, bad memories. But a lot of avenging to do, or revenge," said Mart offensive and defensive lineman Zeke Freeman.
"We couldn't keep up with each other last year and going through that game, you're just thinking, golly when are we going to stop them, when is somebody going to make a stop," said Rogers running back and defensive back Carson Skala. "I guess very late in the game is when we had that key stop and we got up by 30 and that just put us up for the rest of the game."
"The different offense that they run, we're used to people throwing the ball and they don't do a lot of that, they do a lot of running," said Mart receiver and defensive back Bryan Scott. "We just got to stay in our defense and do what we can do."
It might be a bit much to expect another 142 point effort between the two schools again this year. And both schools are hoping it doesn't happen again.
"I'm so tired about hearing about 84-58. You hope it don't happen again," said Mart head coach Rusty Nail. "Last years game there was some variables. They got some onside kicks, we had some injuries and they executed really well. I anticipate it could be a shootout again but we hope it doesn't get that ridiculous."
"Our defense is going to have to go faster and harder, which they have been this year," said Rogers offensive lineman T.J. Winn. "And our offense is just going to have to pick up their game and do the same."
"Just one of those games where things got away from both defenses. I don't think that's going to be the case this year," said Rogers head coach Jeff Walker. "They've got a good defense and we think our defense is playing better. I don't think we'll see a repeat from last year."
