Baylor Adds Denver Transfer Royce O’Neale

WACO (May 20, 2013) -- Baylor men’s basketball has signed Harker Heights product and University of Denver transfer Royce O’Neale to a Financial Aid Contract, head coach Scott Drew announced Monday.

O’Neale, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound guard/forward, earned third-team 2013 All-WAC honors as a sophomore at Denver. He started all 32 games and averaged 11.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 35.3 minutes per game while leading the Pioneers to a 22-10 record and a share of the WAC championship in 2012-13.

“Royce is from right here in Central Texas, and our staff is really excited about having two local players on our roster.” Drew said. “He wanted to move back home to be closer to family, and we’re extremely excited that he chose to play at Baylor. He’s a great young man who can do a lot of different things on the basketball court, and Baylor Nation will really enjoying getting to know Royce over the next few years.”

O’Neale played in 31 games and made five starts as a freshman at Denver in 2011-12. He averaged 9.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27.0 minutes per game.

The former Knight joins the Bears with two years of eligibility remaining after playing his first two collegiate seasons at Denver. His addition gives Baylor another veteran on a roster that includes six returning letterwinners, including fellow Killeen native Cory Jefferson, from the 2013 NIT championship team.
