LAREDO (March 14, 2014) The Baylor men’s golf team shot 4-under-par 572 in Friday’s first two rounds, good for second place headed into Saturday’s final round at the Border Olympics. The Bears are three strokes behind tournament leader Oklahoma, which finished the day at 7-under-par 569.
Baylor shot 8-under in the second round to finish six strokes ahead of third place Houston. Louisiana-Monroe is in fourth place at 8-over par and Lamar rounds out the top five, finishing the day at 13-over par.
Three Baylor players finished the day in the top 25 individually. Senior Jerry Ruiz leads the tournament by two strokes after a second round 7-under 65 vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard from ninth place after shooting even-par in the first round. Andreas Gjesteby is in seventh place at 1-under par for the tournament. Niclas Mansson shot 5-over in his first round, but rebounded with a second round 2-under to finish the day in a tie for 22nd place.
Juniors Kyle Jones and Filippo Zucchetti finished the day at 4-over par and are currently tied for 27th place. Individual competitors Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and Charles Neel White finished the day in ties for 22nd place and 37th place, respectively.
