IRVING (July 25, 2012) -- Baylor men’s basketball will play a school-record three games as part of ESPN’s Big Monday platform during the 2013 season, the Big 12 Conference announced Wednesday. This year will be the fourth time in the last five seasons the Bears have had multiple Big Monday games.
The Bears travel to Kansas to face the defending champion Jayhawks in the Big 12’s first Big Monday game of the season at 8 p.m. CT on Jan. 14. Baylor hosts Oklahoma State at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 in the first game of the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. doubleheader, followed by Texas at Oklahoma at 8:30 p.m. The Bears also travel to Austin to face Texas in the final 2013 Big Monday contest at 8 p.m. on March 4.
Baylor went 1-1 in Big Monday games last season with a loss at Kansas and a win at Texas, and the Bears are 2-5 all-time in ESPN Big Monday contests. The Bears finished the 2011-12 season with a school-record 30 wins and advanced to the Elite Eight for the second time in the last three years.
All nine Big Monday games will be televised on ESPN and available on WatchESPN. Baylor’s three Big Monday appearances ties West Virginia and Texas for second-most in the league, one behind Kansas with four scheduled games. Eight of 10 Big 12 teams will play at least once on Big Monday.
Baylor played its first Big Monday game in 2001, and the Bears appeared on the platform two times in the 2009, 2011 and 2012 seasons. The Bears have faced Kansas four times (1-3), Texas twice (1-1) and Kansas State once (0-1).
