(January 13, 2014) Baylor’s men’s track and field team was ranked 18th in the preseason edition of the USTFCCCA Indoor Team Rankings, the organization announced on Monday.
The Bears racked up a total of 39.69 points in the computer-generated rankings. The point tally is based on 2013 indoor performances from each team’s top talent.
Baylor’s points came from senior Blake Heriot, who is listed at No. 5 in the 200 and No. 24 in the 400 meters, while sophomore Felix Obi tallied points in the long jump (No. 23) and triple jump (No. 2). Meanwhile, Baylor’s 4x400-meter relay time ranked 10th overall.
BU returns a total of eight All-Big 12 Indoor performers and brings in the eighth-best recruiting class according to Track & Field News.
Baylor is back in the preseason top 25 for the first time since 2011 when it was No. 24 and earns its highest preseason designation since being 11th in 2010.
The Bears are the third-highest ranked Big 12 team behind No. 10 Oklahoma State and No. 15 Texas.
The Baylor women’s squad checks in just outside the top-25 at No. 26.
The Bears open the indoor season on Friday by traveling to the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational in College Station, Texas. The meet continues on Saturday.
