Baylor Rises To No. 5 In AP Poll; Best Ranking In 60 Years

(October 27, 2013) Baylor moved up a notch to No. 5 in The Associated Press college football poll Sunday after beating Kansas, the best ranking for the Bears in 60 years.

Baylor beat Kansas 59-14 Saturday and moved up a spot after Missouri took its first loss.

It’s the highest ranking for Baylor in the poll since November 1953 when Baylor was No. 3.

The Bears are 7-0 for the first time since 1980 and 4-0 in conference play for the first time since 1985.

BU earned 1,223 points from voters in the AP poll, after ranking at No. 6 last week with 1,189 points.

Although the Bears did not move up in the coaches poll, they did gain 38 points to total 1,293, up from 1,255 last week.

Baylor continues to be the highest ranked Big 12 Conference team in both polls, after achieving the feat for the first time in league history two weeks ago.

The top four teams in the rankings all put on impressive displays Saturday and hold their spots Sunday.

No. 1 Alabama received 55 first-place votes after beating Tennessee 45-10.

No. 2 Oregon got three first-place votes following a 42-14 victory against UCLA.

No. 3 Florida State pounded North Carolina State 49-17 and drew two first-place votes from the media panel.

No. 4 Ohio State handed Penn State its worst loss in more than a century, 63-14.

Texas A&M rose two spots from No. 14 to No. 12 and Texas Tech fell from No. 10 to No. 15 after losing to Oklahoma, which improved from No. 17 to No. 13.
