WACO (August 23, 2013) -- No. 10 Baylor (1-0-0) wasted no time in starting the 2013 season off with a 5-0 home win over UTSA (0-1-0) on Friday evening at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
The Bears hit the back of the net five times in the first period, scoring in the third, eighth, 19th, 29th and 35th minutes. Vic Hoffman started the scoring as the first shot of Baylor’s season came off her left foot from the right wing and sailed over UTSA goalie Katherine Tesno’s head into the net. Five minutes later, freshman Ashley York put her first collegiate shot into the net from the box off a rebound of another Hoffman shot.
With one of the nation’s best defenses, two goals was enough for BU to prevail but Kat Ludlow added to the lead and put a rebound off a free kick into the net, skimming the ball by Tesno’s left side, in the 19th minute. Nearly 10 minutes later, Alex Klein intercepted a pass in UTSA territory and set up Natalie Huggins, who blasted the ball past Tesno from the box. Bri Campos rounded out the scoring for Baylor in the 35th minute with a well-placed shot from the box that was assisted by Justine Hovden.
