(August 29, 2014) Baylor soccer suffered its first loss of the season as Utah Valley earned a 2-1 win on Friday night at Clyde Field. The Wolverines (2-2-0) used goals in the fourth and 84th minutes to secure the win over the Bears (2-1-0).
Right out of the gate, UVU established early possession and it resulted in a fourth-minute goal by Kasandra Anderson. It was the first goal given up by Baylor in nearly 200 minutes to start the season.
The Bears eventually took command of possession and knotted the game in the 33rd minute. Justine Hovden was able to get the ball to Natalie Huggins on the run down the sideline and Huggins served a cross to Ashley York, who fired a strike from about 16 yards out to the upper corner. BU ended the half tied 1-1 with edges in shots (7-3) and shots on goal (3-2).
Baylor continued to dominate on shots in the second half but UVU goalie Jessica Duffin was up to the task as she tallied three saves in the half. Despite the Bears ending the match with a 16-6 advantage in shots and 4-2 edge in shots on goal, the Wolverines were able to make one of their two shots on goal count. In the 84th minute, Sydney Fitzpatrick and Sarah Cipperley set up Kim Stratford for a shot from the top of the box that BU goalie Michelle Kloss was unable to squeeze.
Baylor had a frantic opportunity in the 90th minute with a corner kick and chance to run a set piece. Hovden lobbed the corner into a crowd of players and BU’s Sarah Moghadas was able to control the ball and get a decent shot off but a team save was made with eight seconds left.
*Ashley York scored her seventh career goal and first goal of the season.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
“We didn’t come out with the intensity we needed right off the bat and they made us pay, which is what good teams do. We settled in after that. Ashley York had a great game. This will help us learn what we need to do better and help us down the road. Our girls are in the right mind set right now and know what we need to do better as we regroup and get ready for BYU Monday.” – Co-Head Coach Paul Jobson
