Baylor Soccer Ranked In National Poll

WACO (August 21, 2012) -- On the strength of a 2-0 start to the 2012 campaign, the Baylor women’s soccer team earned the No. 24 spot in Tuesday’s NSCAA/Continental Tire College Rankings. It is the first top 25 ranking for the program in any of the three major national polls since November 10, 1999.

BU blanked Rice, 1-0, in its season opener on Friday and then shutout Northwestern State, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon in the home opener. Along with the six goals in two games, the Baylor offense has racked up 61 shots and 24 shots on goal. The BU defense has been equally impressive by limiting the Owls to eight shots and holding the Lady Demons without a shot.

In the NSCAA's preseason rankings released on Aug. 7, the Bears were receiving votes as they welcomed back 22 players, including seven starters from the 2011 squad that finished with a 15-4-3 record.

Baylor joins fourth-ranked Oklahoma State as the only Big 12 programs represented in the poll.

BU will now head to California for its first two-game road trip of the year. On Friday, Baylor faces Cal State Northridge and then on Sunday BU tangles with No. 15 Long Beach State. Baylor will not return to action at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field until August 31 against Nebraska.
