WACO (September 7, 2013) -- UT Arlington pushed past Baylor’s volleyball team in four sets Saturday morning, 25-18, 25-27, 25-12, 25-17. Taylor Gross paced the Mavericks with 13 kills, and UTA hit .292 for the match. However, the story of the match was UTA’s defense, recording 16 blocks while holding the Bears to a .106 hitting percentage.
In the losing effort, Zoe Adom posted a season-high 19 kills on a .342 attack percentage and Laura Jones added 11 kills. Charmaine Whitmore was devastating to the Bears’ offensive attack with 12 assisted blocks while Gross added eight total blocks.
Baylor’s 1-5 start to the season is the slowest since the 1995 team began the year at 0-6. UT Arlington improved to 4-2 on the season.
