Baylor Women’s Golf In Fourth At Ptarmigan

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (September 10, 2012) -- Baylor’s women’s golf team is in fourth place after Monday’s opening round at Colonel Bill Wollenberg’s Ptarmigan Ram Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club.

Emma Carberry and Hayley Davis are tied for eighth individually after shooting 1-over-par 145 across 36 holes. Carberry’s second round 71 and her 36-hole total of 145 are both personal records.

The Lady Bears shot 297 in the opening round, which placed them in a tie for third at 9-over-par through 18 holes. Texas Tech and San Jose State shared the lead midway through the day after shooting 1-over 289. Baylor improved to a 6-over 294 in the second round, which put the Lady Bears in fourth place at 15-over heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Davis, a sophomore All-American, led the way with an ever par 72 in Monday’s first round, followed by Carberry’s 2-over 74, Kaylin Terry’s 3-over 75 and Lauren Taylor’s 4-over 76. Annette Lyche, who joined Taylor in making their collegiate debuts, shot a 7-over 79.

In the second round, Carberry turned in the Lady Bears’ best round of the day with a 1-under 71, while Davis shot 1-over 73, Taylor added a 2-over 74 and Terry shot 4-over 76. Lyche was two shots better than her opening round with a 5-over 77.

Davis led the way with eight birdies on the day, while Carberry added six birdies across 36 holes. Carberry and Davis finished the day tied for eighth individually at 1-over 145, while Taylor was tied for 23rd at 6-over 150 and Terry ranked tied for 32nd at 7-over 151. Carberry’s second round 71 was one of 11 below-par totals out of 180 rounds played during the day.

Texas Tech enters the final day with the lead at 1-under 575, followed by New Mexico in second at 586 and Louisville in third at 589. The Lady Bears are two strokes back of third place and five shots back of second.

Carberry and Davis are eight shots back of the leader, Manon DeRoey of New Mexico (137), but just one stroke back of four players tied for fourth place at 144. Tuesday’s final round begins with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Carberry and Lyche will begin on the fourth hole, while Taylor starts on the fifth and Terry and Davis tee off on the sixth.
