Baylor Soccer Releases 2012 Schedule

WACO (June 5, 2012) -- Head soccer coach Marci Jobson announced the release of Baylor's 2012 schedule Tuesday, as nine home games, and five against NCAA Tournament squads, highlight the slate.

"I am very excited about our 2012 schedule," Jobson said. "Our conference is always tough, and with the addition of TCU and West Virginia we add two programs with plenty of talent. I think our road schedule in non-conference will get us prepared for Big 12 play and put us in a position to be where we want at the end."

The Bears will open with an exhibition match at three-time national champion Notre Dame on Aug. 12 before beginning the regular season on the road for the third time in the last five years at Rice on Aug. 17. Baylor’s season opener will come on Aug. 19 against Northwestern State following which BU will be heading to the west coast. On their California swing, the Bears will face Cal State Northridge (Aug. 24) and NCAA Tournament participant Long Beach State (Aug. 26).

Baylor then returns home for its first full home weekend, hosting Nebraska (Aug. 31) and McNeese State (Sept. 2). A two-game road trip at North Texas (Sept. 7) and UTSA (Sept. 9) begin four of five matches away from Betty Lou Mays Field. BU hosts SMU (Sept. 14) then hits the road to Houston Baptist (Sept. 16) before opening Big 12 play.

The Bears begin conference action at Oklahoma (Sept. 21) then return home for their final non-conference game against Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 23).

Baylor’s home conference schedule will welcome Kansas (Sept. 28) and end the year with the final three games at home, facing Texas (Oct. 19), Iowa State (Oct. 21) and TCU (Oct. 26).

In addition to OU, BU’s conference road games will include three-straight away games at Texas Tech (Oct. 5), West Virginia (Oct. 12) and Oklahoma State (Oct. 14).

The Bears return 22 players, including seven starters to the 2011 squad that finished with a 15-4-3 record, placing third in the Big 12 after going 5-2-1. The 15 wins tied the 1998 Big 12 Champion team for the second-most victories in a season and the squad became the first team to advance past the first round of the NCAA Championship in program history.
