WASHINGTON (November 14, 2012)—Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, the hometown hero turned NFL star, says he hasn’t forgotten his roots.

“I miss Texas, miss everyone there…miss the environment of being in Central Texas,” he said in an exclusive one-on-one interview with News Ten’s Julie Hayes.

In a matter of months Griffin, the Copperas Cove and Baylor standout, has become a household name and a multi-millionaire as well.

But in many ways he’s the same old Robert.

“It’s nice not being a broke college student anymore,” he admits.

“It is a dream come true,” he says, “but there is so much more to do than people realize. It’s not just playing football and getting paid for it,” he said.

When asked if life as an NFL superstar has changed him, Griffin answered, “I keep people around me that make sure I don't change.”

And he says he hasn’t forgotten where he came from.

“I hope I can do some things in Copperas Cove, he said,” and when I’m retired, I want to be able to go back to the city (where) I grew up and be able to do anything I can to help it prosper.”
