Cameron Yoe Player Making Impact Off The Field

(December 18, 2012) -- Dylan Riola did everything for Cameron Yoe last season. He played wide receiver, defensive back, and even punter. But at the end of the year, Riola found out some news that would change his life.

Riola woke up with a blood clot in his leg. Later, he was diagnosed with a protein S deficiency, meaning his blood clots easily. He was put on blood thinners which keeps from participating in any contact sports.

"Naturally a person's first reaction is to blame somebody else or ask why it happened to them," said Riola. "But I try to have faith that there is a plan or a reason for everything. I had great family and friends and coaches who helped me get through it to let me know it wasn't the end of the world and it would be alright."

Riola stayed on the team and this season, he acted as another assistant coach, giving guidance and tips to his fellow quarterbacks and receivers.

Riola did get to play in his first game this year, in the state quarterfinals against Hallettsville. He came in on the final play, to take a knee in the victory formation.

He hopes to do the same if the Yoemen beat Daingerfield in the 2A Division I state final on Thursday.
