AUSTIN (May 12, 2012) The Connally Girls Track & Field team won the overall 3A State Championship Saturday in Austin. It's the 2nd state title for the Lady Cadets as they won it back in 2009.
Connally's Paula Smith, led her team with 3 gold medals at Mike A. Meyers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas. First in the 3A Girls High Jump at a height of 5 feet and 7 inches.
Then Smith's second gold medal came in the 3A 400 Meter race where she blew away the other state qualifiers by nearly 2 seconds.
And finally Smith's third gold medal came in the 3A 4X400 Meter relay with a time of 3:54.89. Connally's relay team consisted of Mara Thomas, Talea Turner, Khalaya Williams, and Paula Smith.
