COPPERAS COVE (March 30, 2013) -- After two seasons at the helm, Lady Dawg head coach Teresa Durham resigned her position at Copperas Cove High School on Friday, effective at the end of the school year.
"I've always had the desire to build a championship program and feel that we're on the way," Durham said Friday afternoon. "We've turned the corner and the program is headed in the right direction."
Durham added that she does plan to continue coaching.
The Lady Dawgs finished the 2012-13 season 24-10 overall and were 11-3 in District 8-5A, securing the league's second-place seed in the state playoffs. Cove fell to Cedar Hill 69-68 in round one.
"We appreciate the great things Coach Durham has done for the program in getting Lady Dawg basketball back to the state playoffs, where everyone expects Lady Dawg basketball to be," said Cove athletic director Jack Welch. "She came here to restore Lady Dawg basketball and she has accomplished her goal. She is leaving the cupboard well stocked. Our junior varsity teams had good seasons and our varsity has a good returning nucleus. She will be hard to replace."
Welch added that no timeline is in place to name a new head coach, but action will be taken as quickly as possible.
"We'll take all the time necessary to get the right person in place," he said."
