Dallas TE Witten Close To Passing Irvin In Catches

IRVING (October 31, 2012) -- Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten still remembers his first catch, a 13-yard gain against Atlanta in the 2003 season opener.

With four more catches against the Falcons on Sunday, Witten will surpass Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin's franchise record of 750 receptions.

Witten said Wednesday it is special to be mentioned with Irvin, but the seven-time Pro Bowler says his focus is on trying to help the Cowboys (3-4) win at the undefeated Falcons.

Witten has a chance to break Irvin's mark on Sunday while tight end Tony Gonzalez is on the other side of the field. Witten ranks third on the tight end list with 747 career catches, trailing the 1,195 by Atlanta's Gonzalez, and Shannon Sharpe's 815. Witten is also third with 8,396 yards.
