LONDON (July 27, 2012)—Texas gymnast Carly Patterson, who won gold in Athens eight years ago becoming the first woman to win the Olympic title since Mary Lou Retton, is at the Summer Games in London.
It’s her first Olympics since she won her gold medal.
But she’s not there to compete.
Instead, Patterson, who lives near Dallas, is doing work for sponsors.
She sang the national anthem at the opening of P&G's U.S. Family Home on Friday, but she's also going to have a chance to go to some events.
Back problems forced Patterson, 24, to retire after Athens, where she also won silver medals with the U.S. team and on balance beam.
Patterson is finishing college and will get married on Nov. 3.
