ST. LOUIS (January 15, 2013) -- Baylor's Brittney Griner has been selected by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association as its Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the week.
As the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, Griner was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by a representative of the USBWA board of directors from a list of Division I conference players of the week.
Griner is the reigning Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Player of the Year, averaged 28.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks as the top-ranked Lady Bears beat two ranked conference opponents. She collected 23 points in the win over then No. 25 Iowa State and then scored 33 against then No. 17 Kansas.
Her start against Kansas was her 127th breaking the previous mark of 126 set by Sophia Young, who is now with the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars.
