(April 4, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlanders swept the Weatherford Coyotes Thursday afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
MCC took game one 3-1 with Jamie Bittle getting the win on the mound and Conner Camacho picking up the save.
Weatherford's only run came in the top of the first as Cody Semier singled, moved to second on a bunt by Aaron Collazo, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Trooper Reynolds.
The Highlanders tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Justin Perales singled, moved to second on Cole Calder's walk and came around to score on a single by Tyler Floyd.
MCC sealed the win with two runs in the fifth. Trevor Podsednik reached first and advanced to second on a Weatherford error. Matt Hilston followed with a sacrifice bunt, moving Podsednik to third. Zach Valenzuela was safe on a fielder's choice that put Podsednik out. Evan Williams was then safe at first on another error. Kyle Thornell followed with a triple to score Valenzuela and Evan Williams.
The Highlanders needed an extra inning to defeat the Coyotes 6-5 in the nightcap. Enrique Oquendo picked up the win.
Weatherford scored one run in the top of the first as Hunter Lockwood doubled and scored on a double by Reynolds.
MCC tied the game in the bottom of the first as Hilston reached on an error, moved to second on Valenzuela's walk, stole third and scored on an overthrown pick off attempt.
The Highlanders added two runs in the second. Reid Coover singled, Calder doubled and Floyd was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Hilston drew a walk, bringing Coover in to score. Valenzuela followed with a fielder's choice to score Calder.
MCC extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Thornell and Caleb Williams walked. Coover then singled to score Thornell. Andrew Rhodes and Floyd drew back-to-back walks, bringing Caleb Williams in to score.
The Coyotes added one run in the sixth as Cameron Allerheiligen singled, advanced to third on a single by Lockwood and scored on a single by Paxton Delagarza.
Weatherford tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh. Colton Hall was safe on a bunt and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Semier. Collin Sefcik singled and Lockwood walked to load the bases. Reynolds followed with a double to score Hall, Sefcik and Lockwood.
The Highlanders' winning run came in the bottom of the 10th inning. Thornell walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caleb Williams. Rhodes drew a walk. Floyd then singled to right field, bringing Thornell in to score.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Weatherford.
