The McLennan Highlanders defeated the God's Academy Ambassadors 102-65 Saturday afternoon in the Joe White Classic at Hill College.
Both teams started slow. The game was tied at eight with 15:19 remaining in the first half. McLennan pulled away with a 12-0 run, taking the 20-8 lead with 11:50 to go. God's Academy used a 9-0 run to cut the lead to three, 20-17. But the Highlanders pulled away again and held the 17-point lead at the break, 51-34.
The second half was all McLennan as the Highlanders cruised to the easy victory.
Sophomore Shawn Prudhomme led McLennan with 21 points. Deondre Ray and Austen Bradshaw added 16 and 10, respectively.
The McLennan Highlassies defeated the Angelina Lady Roadrunners 80-71 Saturday in the Angelina Classic.
Sophomore Shanice Davis led the Highlassies with 24 points and sophomore Justice Crisp scored 14.
The Highlassies travel to Athens on Tuesday to face Trinity Valley at 5:30 p.m.
McLennan will host Navarro for West Night at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Admission is free. Fans are encouraged to wear black and red in honor of our neighbors from West and make a donation to the Legacy West Education Foundation.
