(March 13, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlanders dropped both games of Wednesday's conference doubleheader with the Grayson Vikings in Sherman.
Grayson took game one 7-1 with Kody Hessemer taking the loss on the mound.
The Vikings began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the second as Zack Reding singled and scored on a double by Austin Krajnak.
Grayson added one run in the third as Cody Gunter doubled and scored on a single by Kevin Cornelius.
Matt Hilston's solo home run in the top of the fifth was the only run for MCC.
The Vikings added two more runs in the fifth as Chris Gittens singled and scored on Cornelius' home run.
Grayson rounded out the scoring with three runs in the sixth. Trey Rodriguez and Wes Jones both singled, and Gunter walked to load the bases. Gittens drew a walk to score Rodriguez. Cornelius then walked, bringing Jones in to score.
The Vikings defeated the Highlanders 12-7 in the nightcap with Blake Zieren taking the loss.
MCC began the scoring with one run in the first inning as Hilston doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a Grayson error that put Valenzuela safe at first.
Grayson responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Jones doubled, moved to second on a fly out by Gunter and scored on a single by Gittens. Cornelius followed with a single. Reding then doubled to score Gittens and Cornelius.
The Highlanders tied the game with two runs in the top of the second. Reid Coover singled. Evan Williams followed with a fielder's choice but a Grayson error left Coover and Williams safe on the corners. Hilston then doubled to score Coover and Williams.
The Vikings took the lead with Krajnak's home run in the bottom of the second.
MCC scored two runs in the third. Justin Perales drew a walk and Kyle Thornell was hit by the pitch. Cole Calder then singled to score Perales. Coover followed with a fielder's choice that put Calder out at second. Williams drew a walk to load the bases. Raley then walked, bringing Thornell in to score.
Grayson added two runs in the bottom of the third. Cornelius walked and scored on a double by Reding. Reding advanced to third on a fly out by Robert Rosser and stole home.
The Vikings scored three runs in the fifth. Rodriguez singled and Jones was hit by the pitch. Gunter followed with a single to score Rodriguez. Jones and Gunter then scored on a single by Cornelius.
The Highlanders added a run in the fifth. Thornell singled but was out at second on a firlder's choice by Coover. Williams the doubled to score Coover.
Grayson added three runs in the sixth. Jones and Gunter singled. Gittens followed with a single to score Jones. Gittens stole second. Gunter came in to score on a passed ball that advanced Gittens to third. Gittens then scored on a fly out by Reding.
MCC rounded out the scoring with a run in the eighth as Tyler Floyd walked, advanced to third on a double by Valenzuela and scored on a single by Calder.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
