Highlanders, Highlassies End Season With Wins

(February 27, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Southwestern Christian Rams 75-66 tonight at The Highlands.

The Highlanders came out on fire, opening the game on a 12-0 run. The Rams fought back, taking the 19-18 lead with 8:08 to play in the first half. Southwestern Christian extended the lead to five but MCC cut it to one at the break, 30-29.

MCC opened the second half on a 13-2 run and built an 11-point lead with 13:16 remaining in the game. The Rams rallied again, cutting the lead to one at 64-63 with 2:37 to play. The Highlanders ended the game on an 11-1 run to seal the win.

Shawn Prudhomme led MCC with 28 points. D.J. Weathers and Deondre Ray added 15 and 12 points, respectively. DeChriston McKinney and Wayne Langston scored 10 points each.

In women's action, the McLennan Highlassies defeated the Southwestern Christian Lady Rams 86-28.

Southwestern Christian held the early 3-2 lead but MCC used a 10-0 run in the next five minutes to break open the game. The Highlassies led 39-14 advantage at the break.

MCC continued to pull away in the second half as they cruised to the easy victory.

Cha'Zaye Wright led MCC with 19 points. Shanice Davis and Sondra Flippin added 12 and 11, respectively.

The Highlassies also picked up a win today following the forfeit of the Eastern Oklahoma State game from earlier in the season due to the participation of an ineligible player. MCC heads into post-season play with an overall record of 17-13.

The Highlassies and Highlanders will compete in the Region V Tournament next week at Lubbock Christian University. Women's action gets underway on Wednesday and the men will play on Thursday.
