Highlanders, Highlassies Win

(January 30, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Wharton Pioneers 11-7 today in Wharton in the season opener.

Conner Camacho picked up the win on the mound. Kyle Thornell led the Highlanders at the plate, going 3-4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs. Zach Valenzuela was 3-5 with a solo home run. Matt Hillston was 2-3 with two doubles and 3 RBIs, and Evan Williams was 2-4 with two RBIs.

MCC will host Howard for a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.

The Highlassies opened the 2013 softball season with a two-game sweep of the San Jacinto Coyotes at Bosque River Ballpark.

Laura Wilson picked up the 4-2 win in game one. Taylor Davis led the Highlassies at the plate, going 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Kady Crow was 2-3 with two RBIs.

The Highlassies defeated the Coyotes 3-2 in the night cap with Veronica Garcia picking up the win. Davis was 2-3. Courtney Mica and Natali Duron both recorded RBIs.

MCC will compete in the Galveston Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
