WACO (April 20, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlassies swept the Cisco Lady Wranglers Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
MCC shut out Cisco 8-0 in a five-inning, run-rule win with Veronica Garcia getting the win in the circle.
The Highlassies got on the board with one run in the bottom of the first as Taylor Davis doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Courtney Mica.
MCC added two runs in the second. Natali Duron led off with a single, moved to third on a fly out by Tiffany Birdwell and came in to score on a passed ball. Audrey Calvo then bunted for a single and scored on a triple by Davis.
The Highlassies increased the lead with two runs in the third. Abby White drew a walk and scored on a double by Duron. Birdwell then singled to score Duron.
MCC sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kady Crow led off with a solo home run. Lena Capps doubled, White singled and Duron bunted to load the bases. Birdwell walked, bringing Capps in to score. Sevanah Campos-Reyes then singled to score White and end the game.
The Highlassies run-ruled the Lady Wranglers 10-2 in the second game with Laura Wilson getting the win.
Cisco began the scoring with one run in the top off the first as Melyssa Lunsford singled, stole second and scored on a single by Sara Ward.
MCC took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second. Duron singled, Campos-Reyes drew a walk and Calvo walked to loads the bases. Davis followed with a single to score Duron and Campos-Reyes. Crow then doubled to score Calvo and Davis.
The Lady Wranglers scored one run in the top of the third as Ward doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Peyton Fairchild and scored on a single by Merissa Martinez.
The Highlassies added four runs in the bottom of the third. Duron walked, Campos-Reyes singled and Calvo walked to loads the bases. Davis followed with a grand slam over the right field wall.
MCC rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Campos-Reyes drew a walk, advanced around to third on a ground out by Calvo and scored on a passed ball. Mica then singled, stole second and came around to score on two passed balls.
The Highlassies return to action on Wednesday, hosting Grayson for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
RANGER (April 20, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlanders and Ranger Rangers split Saturday's conference doubleheader in Ranger.
Ranger defeated MCC 13-7 in game one with Caleb Wallingford taking the loss on the mound. Matt Hilston was 2-5 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Cole Calder and Evan Williams both recorded a triple and Kyle Thornell hit a double.
The Highlanders bounced back to defeat the Rangers 18-4 in the night cap with Trey Wall picking up the win. Thornell recorded two home runs and three RBIs. Reid Coover was 3-5 at the plate with a double, triple and four RBIs. Williams was 3-4 with a double and five RBIs.
MCC returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Vernon for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
