MESQUITE (March 24, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlanders swept the Eastfield Harvesters Sunday afternoon in Mesquite.
MCC took game one 2-0 with Caleb Wallingford getting the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored one run in the top of the fifth as Cole Calder singled, stole second and scored on a bunt single by Tyler Floyd.
MCC's other run came in the seventh as Andrew Rhodes doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Floyd and scored on a balk.
The Highlanders defeated the Harvesters 12-5 in the nightcap with Trey Wall picking up the win.
MCC began the scoring with one run in the top of the third as Floyd doubled and scored on a single by Hilston.
The Highlanders added two runs in the fourth. Evan Williams and Kyle Thornell both singled and advanced on a ground out by Rhodes. Calder then singled to score Williams and Thornell.
Eastfield got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Taylor Empkey drew a walk, Will Birge singled and Joshua Davidson was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Tyler Davis walked, bringing Empkey in to score. Birge then scored on a ground out by Gavin Gregory.
MCC exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth. Hilston drew a lead off walk and Zach Valenzuela singled. Williams reached safely on an error, bringing Hilston in to score. Thornell followed with a single to score Valenzuela but stepped off the bag and was tagged out at first. Rhodes then singled to score Williams. Calder singled and Coover followed with a single to score Rhodes. Floyd singled to score Calder. Trevor Posednik grounded out to advance the runners. A balk brought Coover in to score and advanced Floyd to third. Hilston then singled to score Floyd.
The Highlanders scored two runs in the sixth. Rhodes was hit by the pitch, Calder walked and Coover singled to load the bases. Podsednik grounded out, bringing Rhodes in to score. Hilston was hit by the pitch to reload the bases. Valenzuela then drew a walk, bringing Calder in to score.
The Harvesters added two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Matt Hexter singled, Josh Leonhardt walked and Carl Heinrich was safe on an error, loading the bases. Hexter scored on a fly out by Empkey, and Leonhardt scored on a fielder's choice by Birge.
Eastfield rounded out the scoring with a run in the seventh as Empkey walked and scored on a double by Bill Carr.
MCC returns to conference play on Wednesday, hosting North Central for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
