(May 2, 2012) -- The McLennan Highlanders swept a conference doubleheader with the North Central Lions at Bosque River Ballpark on Wednesday.
MCC took game one 5-4.
The Highlanders began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first as Ty Marlow singled and scored on a double by Derrick Barosh.
North Central tied the game with one run top of the first as Reggie Rodriguez drew a walk, moved to second on a fielder's choice by Brandon Provost and scored on a single by Garrett McMullen.
MCC added one run in the third. Max Farmer and Matt Hilston both singled. Marlow was then safe at first on an error, bringing Farmer in to score.
The Lions tied the game again with a run in the fourth as Rodriguez doubled, moved to third on a single by Provost and stole home.
The Highlanders took the lead with one run in the fifth as Farmer singled and scored on a triple by Marlow.
North Central scored two runs in the top of the seventh. Charles Deckard and Clayton Vaughn both singled. Aaron De Plaz followed with a single to score Deckard. Vaughn then came in to score on an MCC error.
MCC sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Quinten Davis, Hilston and Marlow all singled to load the bases. Barosh then reached first and advanced to second on two North Central errors bringing Davis and Hilston in to score.
The Highlanders defeated the Lions 8-3 in the nightcap.
MCC got on the board with two runs in the first. Davis led off with a single and scored on a double by Marlow. Marlow then scored on a single by Reid Coover.
The Highlanders added one run in the second as Farmer walked, moved to second on a single by Brooks Eady and came around to score on an error.
North Central scored one run in the third as McMullen doubled, stole third and scored on an MCC error.
MCC increased the lead with two runs in the fourth as Farmer and Davis both walked and scored on a double by Marlow.
The Highlanders added another run in the sixth. Davis was safe at first on an error, stole second and scored on a double by Marlow.
The Lions final two runs came in the top of the seventh. Provost and McMullen both singled. Chamberlin followed with a single to score Provost and McMullen scored on a single by Bosch.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with two runs in the eighth. Dalton Vannatta singled and scored on a double by Marlow. Barosh, Brett Thornell and Farmer all walked, bringing Marlow in to score.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Gainesville.
