Highlassies Beat Ranger, Higlanders Fall

(February 13, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlassies opened the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back as they defeated the Ranger Lady Rangers 78-43 Wednesday at The Highlands.

The Highlassies held Ranger scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of play. MCC took the double-digit lead at 12-2 with 12:16 remaining in the fist half. The Highlassies extended the lead to 14 and held the 29-17 advantage at the break.

MCC continued to pull away in the second half as they cruised to the easy victory.

Sondra Flippin led the Highlassies with 14 points and Cha'Zaye Wright added 13. Latifah Rainey and Ashlyn Ward scored 12 points each. ReAnn Snell rounded out the Highlassies in double digits with 10.

In men's action, the Highlanders fell to the Rangers 62-49.

MCC opened the game on a 5-0 run and led 9-6 with 13:06 to play in the first half. Ranger used a 10-1 run in the next seven minutes to build a six-point lead. MCC cut the lead to four. Ranger pulled away with a 12-0 run, extending the lead to 16. Back-to-back 3-pointers by MCC's Devonse Reed cut the lead to 10 but Kendall Jones' half court shot at the buzzer put the Rangers up by 13 at intermission, 31-18.

The Highlanders cut the lead to eight early in second half but Ranger continued to pull away, leading by as many as 18 down the stretch.

Devonse Reed and Tevin Hanner led the Highlanders with 14 points each. Wayne Langston added 10.

MCC returns to action on Friday, traveling to Collin. The women's game will begin at 2 p.n., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
