Highlassies Split With Ranger

RANGER (April 6, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlassies and Ranger Lady Rangers split Saturday's conference doubleheader in Ranger.

The Highlassies defeated the Lady Rangers 5-2 in the first game with Veronica Garcia getting the win in the circle.

MCC began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Taylor Davis led off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Courtney Mica.

Ranger tied the game with a run in the fourth as Aimee Fifield singled, moved to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on an overthrown pick off attempt.

The Highlassies scored four runs in the top of the fifth. Sevanah Campos-Reyes was safe at first on an error. Audrey Calvo and Courtney Mica both walked to load the bases. Kady Crow followed with a grand slam home run over the left field wall.

The Lady Rangers rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh as Iris Montelongo singled, moved to second on a ground out by Monique Leal and scored on a single by Ruby Aguirre.

Ranger needed an extra inning to defeat MCC 6-5 in game two. Garcia took the loss in the circle.

Taylor Davis' solo home run to lead off the top of the first inning put the Highlassies on the board.

The Lady Rangers took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Montelongo led off with a walk. Leal and Aguirre both singled to load the bases. Fifield was safe on an error, bringing Montelongo and Leal in to score. Aguirre then scored on a single by Jordan Casarez.

MCC added a run in the second as Natali Duron singled, advanced to third on a Ranger error and scored on a double by Birdwell.

The Highlassies tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth. Davis drew a walk and Mica was hit by the pitch. Kady Crow then doubled to score Davis.

Ranger regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Aguirre was safe at first on an error and Fifield singled. Craig followed with a single to score Aguirre. Fifield then scored on a fly out by Casarez.

MCC tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. Davis singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mica. Crow followed with a single. Davis came in to score on a fly out by Abby White. Duron then tripled to score Crow.

The Lady Rangers sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Jessica Polanco led off with a single and moved to second on a ground out by Montelongo. Aguirre then singled to score Polanco.

MCC returns to action on Monday, traveling to Gainesville to face North Central in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
