Hold On, Anne Donovan Had More Blocks That Brittney Griner

WACO (March 14, 2013)--Baylor's Brittney Griner is the NCAA career leader for blocked shots, but it turns there was another 6-foot-8 women's college player who had more.

Anne Donovan had 801 blocks three decades ago as a dominating center for Old Dominion, which won the AIAW national championship during her freshman season in 1980 and later played in two NCAA tournaments, including the Final Four during her senior season.

But Donovan, now a WNBA coach, is quick to point out that the AIAW is a "whole lot different" than the NCAA and she says she never had a dunk like Griner.

Griner's 736 blocks are the most for NCAA men or women.

Baylor (32-1) has been to two Final Fours in Griner's career, and is the defending national champion, fresh off its third straight Big 12 Conference tournament title victory.
