Interim Tag Removed From Waco High's Herbst

WACO (March 1, 2013) -- Waco High School officially has a new head football coach and it didn't have to look too far to find him.

Marty Herbst, who served as the interim head coach in 2012, was introduced Friday morning as the Lions new head football coach.

"It's big to have the interim tag removed," said Herbst. "I never thought much about it. As soon as they said head coach I took the reigns and ran. Interim has kind of hung there but it never bothered me. It probably bothered my staff more than it did me. It's nice to get it out of the way for all of us."

Herbst led Waco High to a 9-4 record this past season including a trip to the regional semifinals in the playoffs.

He was an assistant for 18 seasons before succeeding Danny Ramsey.

Ramsey left Waco High last May to take the head football coaching job at Tomball.
