Italian Wins Tour’s 14th Stage

LYON, France (July 13, 2013)--Italian cyclist Matteo Trentin won the hilly 14th stage of the Tour de France Saturday in a perfectly-timed sprint finish.

Overall leader Chris Froome and the other main contenders were several minutes back when Trentin crossed the finish line in Lyon and Froome was safely in the main pack.

Julien Simon was looking to become the first Frenchman to win a stage on this year's race, but a handful of riders caught him with less than a mile to go.

As they contested the sprint, Trentin was near the back, but surged forward to beat Swiss rider Michael Albasini by half a wheel length.
